Eric D. Blatt Associate
Overview

Eric D. Blatt’s practice encompasses all aspects of patent law, including patent litigation, post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, patent prosecution, opinions, and counseling. Mr. Blatt has experience in a wide range of technologies including medical devices, electro-mechanical systems, computer hardware and software, and telecommunications.

Prior to joining Rothwell Figg, Mr. Blatt worked for six years as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he examined applications in the field of medical devices, surgical methods, and stereotactic systems. In this role, he developed a detailed understanding of the nuances of patent prosecution, as well as a broad familiarity with medical technologies including minimally invasive systems, catheter-based and endoscopic interventions, and imaging and diagnostic techniques.

Mr. Blatt graduated magna cum laude from the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. During law school, he was named Best Advocate in the patent-focused Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition, and earned honors for his thesis exploring the effects of human resource incentives on the quality of examiners’ patentability decisions. Mr. Blatt conducted his undergraduate studies at Duke University, earning a degree in biomedical engineering.
