Overview

Dr. Seth E. Cockrum’s practice covers all aspects of patent law, including district court and appellate litigation, post-grant proceedings before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board, opinions and counseling.  Dr. Cockrum’s litigation practice covers a diverse range of subject matter with a particular focus on Hatch-Waxman litigation.  Dr. Cockrum has substantial experience with post-grant proceedings, including patent interferences, inter partes reexaminations, and inter partes reviews.  In addition, Dr. Cockrum has experience in drafting and prosecuting domestic patent applications, and in overseeing the prosecution of foreign patent applications.

Dr. Cockrum's technical expertise covers a wide range of chemical and life science disciplines, including  organic and inorganic chemistry, small molecule pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, nutraceuticals, herbicides, insecticides, recombinant DNA technology, DNA sequencing, gene silencing, exon skipping, peptide and protein engineering, protein expression, cell culture, drug delivery, molecular biology, and stem cells.  In addition to the chemical and life sciences, Dr. Cockrum also has experience in a broader range of technologies including plant biology, material science, medical devices, and computer -related technologies.

Dr. Cockrum graduated with Honors from Butler University with a Bachelor of Science with a double major of Biology and Chemistry.  Dr. Cockrum also holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin.  His doctoral work focused on the use of nucleic acid aptamers for both bio-threat detection and therapeutic applications. Dr. Cockrum received his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. While in law school, Dr. Cockrum was a member of the Moot Court team, and was inducted into the Order of the Barristers.  Dr. Cockrum is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the ABA, the Intellectual Property Section of the District of Columbia bar, and AIPLA.
